Welcome for Waitrose after local community wins changes

May 12, 2009 12:00 AM

Cllr Richard Harker (Lib Dem, Moortown) has welcomed the decision to approve new plans for the proposed Waitrose Supermarket in Meanwood.

Cllr Harker said "The revised plans for the Supermarket are a major victory for the local community, particularly the changes to the road layout. They show how a local community, working alongside their elected Councillors, can tackle a major company and persuade them to make substantial changes to an unsuitable plan. I am sure that Waitrose will prove a major asset to Meanwood, both in terms of improving shopping facilities and also in providing jobs for local people."
