Recently approved plans to spend £9 million on a new primary school in Harehills have been welcomed by a councillor.
Bankside Primary is to be demolished and rebuilt as part of Leeds City Council's plans to upgrade school facilities throughout the city.
Previously a two form entry school, it is to be rebuilt as a three form entry, allowing the school to cope with the increased population around Harehills.
It is hoped that work can start on site by late July with completion of the scheme currently scheduled for October 2010.
Speaking of the plans Councillor Rev. Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton and Harehills) said:
"Bankside Primary has always suffered with overcrowding so I'm pleased this is finally being addressed. Kids had to use temporary buildings for far too long.
"These new facilities will make a great difference to the children's schooling and I look forward to seeing them open."
