Councillors Penny Ewens and Linda Rhodes-Clayton (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) welcome the decision to further restrict parking in their ward.
The Woodsley Road area of Woodhouse will now be subject to a greater number of restrictions after local residents complained of parking and congestion problems. Woodsley Road itself is used for all day parking by commuters which is damaging to local traders who are loosing customers. It has therefore been deemed to compromise road safety, pedestrian safety, and potentially public safety.
Parking restrictions are also currently proposed on nearby streets to correspond with refuse collection days and to improve access to emergency vehicles.
Further Traffic Regulation Orders, which have to be agreed to establish parking restrictions, including those for residents only, are being introduced not only in the Woodsley Road area but in the terraced streets off Woodhouse Street and roads adjacent to Cliff Road.
Cllr Ewens said:
"Over the last four years we have worked hard to get additional parking restrictions in the ward which will be of direct benefit to residents, traders and public services. This latest round will add to the 78 restrictions already initiated in the ward over the last four years."
Cllr Linda Rhodes - Clayton said:
"The measures will also make the whole process of refuse collection much quicker and safer, refuse is simply not collected at the moment if a council vehicle can't get down a street because of cars. These new restrictions will help to stop that from happening."
