Moortown councillors have given praise to their local churches by giving them a helpful cash boost for luncheon clubs.
Moortown Baptist Church, Meanwood Methodist Church, Meanwood Parish Church and Stainbeck URC have benefited from a share of £1,700. The money has been given from the Moortown councillors' MICE (Members Improvement in the Community and Environment) fund. It will be used by the churches to support the provision of luncheon clubs and social activities for the elderly.
The extra cash is part of over £5,000 which the Moortown councillors have given to local voluntary organisations and groups in recent months.
Councillor Richard Harker (Lib Dem, Moortown) said:
"The churches in our ward provide valuable help and support to members of our community, especially the elderly. The money will help to support luncheon clubs which are a great way for people to get a hot meal, out of the house, meet new friends or spend time with old ones."
