Local people are bowled over by the new cricket facilities in Roundhay park.
The Inner East and North East Area Committees agreed to provide over £14,000 to replace the old, worn out wickets at the southern end of Soldiers' field last year.
Two new artificial pitches have been laid and are being used by local people and cricket groups who have been enjoying getting some practice in before the season starts.
The new pitches are proving to be so popular that Cllr Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton and Harehills), who was instrumental in securing the funding for the replacement wickets, is now looking for more money to create more cricket pitches at the park.
Cllr Alan Taylor said:
"It is great to come down and see people using the new facilities. Demand is only going to increase in the upcoming months. I hope that we can increase the number of pitches so that everyone who wants to use them can do so."
