Work to improve the old railway in Otley is beginning this week. Local residents have had concerns about the size of the trees and the fact that the area has become considerably overgrown since the railway's closure in the 1960s.
Work will take approximately two weeks and include the pruning and removal of some trees in the area. The work will increase the amount of sunlight in the area, which will benefit adjacent houses and enhance the area for local residents and walkers.
The project will cost £9,275. This has been funded from the North West Outer Area Committee's wellbeing fund. Work will be carried out by Leeds City Council's forestry team, beginning on Wednesday 1st April and lasting approximately two weeks.
Councillor Colin Campbell said:
"It is great news that work is getting underway to improve the woodland. I know that residents in the houses opposite will be delighted and everyone who uses the path will benefit from the improvements which will make the area lighter and safer."
