Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park and Woodhouse) with pupils entries
Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park and Woodhouse) attended City of Leeds School's awards evening on Monday 23rd March where she presented Neide Campino with the student of the year prize.
The event was held to showcase the diverse talent of the schools pupils. Various prizes were awarded and guests were entertained with dance and music, provided by members of the school's different steel bands.
Neide, who joined the school in Year 9 from Portugal, has gained 7 GCSEs and is currently studying 4 A levels. Upon leaving school, she plans to study law at Leeds University. Neide's fellow pupils voted for her to win the prize due to her position as positive role model for the rest of the school. They also felt that she proves that an individual's background doesn't have stop them achieving their goals if they have self belief.
Councillor Ewens, who is a governor at the school, said:
"It was a lovely evening, I was delighted to attend and be asked to present the student of the year prize.
"The event was the perfect way to show off all the pupils outstanding work. I would like to pay tribute to all the pupils and staff for the fantastic work they are doing."
