Leeds City Council is hoping to give £330,000 extra funding to voluntary organisations throughout the city.
Plans going before the council's executive board make an extra £10,000 available for each of the 33 wards. This will supplement the £30,000 ward based initiative funding that was provided in the budget.
Previously money could only be spent on a council asset, however this latest £10,000 can be given to voluntary organisations. It will be made available to organisations to help them reduce their running costs. This could be through fuel efficiency and heating works, thereby also helping to tackle climate change. The money can be spent on capital works to buildings and premises.
Speaking of the plans Councillor Richard Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill), joint leader of Leeds City Council said:
"I am really excited that in this difficult time we have been able to find further funding to support voluntary organisations. Through providing this money we are supporting local communities and also combating climate change.
"I know there are many organisations out there that have been seeking help reducing their running costs during these difficult times. Hopefully we will now see them getting in touch with councillors to try and arrange some help."
