A local councillor has called for a change in the law which would help to improve street cleansing and refuse collection services across the city.
Cllr Brian Cleasby (Lib Dem, Horsforth and Member of the Environment and Neighbourhoods Scrutiny Board) said:
"As councillors we get many complaints about the lack of consistency in refuse collection and street cleansing. One of the main reasons for this is due to people parking their cars in such a way that the refuse and street cleansing vehicles simply can't get through to do their job.
"That is why I am calling firstly for the dates and times of both refuse collections and street cleansing to be published in advance to give people the chance to move their cars out of the way. Secondly I would like to see a change in the law that would give council officers additional powers to issue fixed penalty notices to those vehicles that continue to cause an obstruction."
