Local Councillor Revd Alan Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton and Harehills) has welcomed plans that move ever closer to the opening of a new Joint Service Centre in Harehills.
A report presented to the Council's Executive Board called for the acceptance of a financial offer and for plans to now go forward for further development.
The Joint Service Centre, to be housed on Compton Road, will cover over 1,500 square metres. It will house a community library, customer services, a Chinese advisory service, environmental health services, a branch of Leeds City Credit Union and the capacity for the PCT to deliver health services.
Latest estimates suggest that contracts will be signed off by April 2009 and the building should be ready for occupation by April 2010.
Speaking of the latest plans, Councillor Taylor said:
"It is great that plans for the Joint Service Centre are still continuing at pace. Once the facility is open I know it will make a great contribution to the local area. It is heartening to see the council continue to invest in local areas despite the difficult financial situation it faces. I look forward to being able to visit the Centre in the not too distant future."
