Nine bids have been received by Leeds City Council from companies wanting to build a waste treatment facility in the city.
Waste management companies were invited in November to submit proposals for a facility to deal with the waste in Leeds that can't be reduced re-used or recycled. The deadline for submissions passed earlier in January.
Nine proposals have been received by the council. The bids cover three different sites and include a wide range of different technologies.
Executive Member for Environment Services Cllr Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said:
"I am pleased that we have received a large number of bids of such high quality taking in a range of technologies and sites.
"This vindicates our neutral approach on these issues and will ensure we end up with the best facility possible.
"The next stage in the process will be to examine these bids in detail and narrow the field down to those that represent the best deal for Leeds."
