Liberal Democrats confirmed their commitment to keep facilities for youth and community at the West Park Centre and welcomed the Council's commitment to retain surrounding greenspace.
Cllr Judith Chapman (Lib Dem, Weetwood), today described the efforts by the Labour Group on Leeds City Council to muddle the waters over the future of the West Park Centre as 'misleading' and 'mischievous'.
Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley), who will be seconding an amendment moved by the Leader of Council at this afternoon's Council meeting said :- "the Labour Group on the Council are either being deliberate mischievous or they don't understand how we actually manage the property owned by Leeds City Council. It really is very simple, the West Park Centre is not for sale, there has been no move the market the building, or even to declare it surplus."
Cllr Richard Harker (Lib Dem, Moortown), Executive Board member with responsibility of Learning added : "At the moment key education services are located at the West Park Centre and I can assure everyone that there are no plans for those services to move out of those premises. As the amendment makes clear the buildings we use are not 'surplus to requirements'. The West Park Centre is therefore not being closed."
