Work has now begun to improve Ebor Gardens Community Centre which will get an £80,000 refurbishment.
Works will include extensive roof repairs, renewing electrical fittings, window repairs, internal and external painting as well as fitting new windows and clearing paths and paving outside. Additional funding will be used to completely refurbish the centres toilets. Much of the work at Ebor Gardens will go towards improving its energy efficiency and reducing the running costs of the centre.
Ward councillors Richard Brett, David Hollingsworth and Ralph Pryke agreed to pool £40,000 of Ward Based Initiative funding together for the improvements. They also secured an extra £40,000 from the council's capital spending budget.
Councillor David Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said:
"It is great news that work has now begun on site. We felt that more money was needed to get the centre up to the required standard. It is extremely well used and this extra work will mean users of the centre we see and appreciate the change more."
