Bowls players at a church in Otley will soon have brand new facilities on which to play the sport following the purchase of a new playing surface.
Bridge Church (URC), on Bridge Lane, Otley will provide facilities for a group of older people to play indoor bowls.
The new facility, under the auspices of Otley Action for Older People will enable more local people to participate in the sport, particularly in the winter months.
The surface, which costs around £800, was paid for by local Liberal Democrat councillors and Otley Rotary Club.
Councillor Colin Campbell (Liberal Democrat, Otley and Yeadon) welcomed the news:
"Indoor bowls has proven to be a very popular activity for a number of older local residents. It provides them with an excellent opportunity to keep physically active and socialise.
"My ward colleagues and I are more than happy to help out the church with the cost of purchasing a new playing surface and I am sure it will provide many years of enjoyment for the Bridge Church bowlers."
