Liberal Democrat councillors in Burmantofts and Richmond Hill and Gipton and Harehills have welcomed news that bus stops along the 16/16a route are to be improved.
Recently announced plans from Leeds City Council approve the spend of £170,000 to improve accessibility at bus stops along this route running between Farsley and Seacroft.
The money provides for works to the first 34 stops along the route, and includes providing bus boarder kerbs to aid passenger boarding and bus stop clearways to ensure buses can access the kerb edge, making it far easier for passengers to use the buses.
Speaking of the announcement Councillor David Hollingsworth said:
"I know how important good quality transport links are for my constituents, many of them depend on the bus services around Leeds to get about. I am pleased the council has recognised improvements need to be made and I am looking forward to seeing the work start."
Councillor Rev. Alan Taylor, whose ward also benefits from the 16/16a route added:
"In the current climate it is important we do everything we can to save people money. Using public transport is much cheaper than running a car and better for the environment. Anything we can do to encourage more people getting on the buses is a good thing as far as I'm concerned."
