Ward councillor welcomes planners' decision

November 25, 2008 12:00 AM

Cllr Linda Rhodes-Clayton and local residents are celebrating the news that proposals to build three, four bedroom houses next to the Cliff Lawn Hotel have been rejected by Leeds City Council's planners.

The size, scale and design of the buildings were deemed to be inappropriate given the location. The hotel itself, which is on Cliff Road in Woodhouse, is considered to be an important and attractive historic building. It is also sited within a conservation area of special historic and architectural character.

Cllr Rhodes-Clayton (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) commented:

"Many residents in Woodhouse contacted me to share their worries about these proposals and I am sure they will share my happiness at this result.

"Whilst I endorse the need for more family homes in Leeds, any development has to be in keeping with the surrounding area and these proposals were not appropriate. I am pleased that the members of the plans panel took notice of our concerns and rejected the proposal."
