Council improves community centre

October 17, 2008 12:00 AM

Leeds City Council is set to spend £105k on improvements to Woodhouse Community Centre.

The money will come from the Asset Management capital budget and will be spent on roofing repairs and improved disabled access to the centre. A ramp to be installed will make it easier for elderly and wheelchair-bound visitors to enter the centre. Visitors will then be able to access the main hall and other facilities. The work should be completed by January 2009.

Woodhouse Community Centre, located on Woodhouse Street, LS6, is host to a wide range of community events and activities. Local groups and societies meet there as well as classes that all can get involved with.

Cllr Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park and Woodhouse) commented:

"I am delighted that Woodhouse Community Centre is to benefit in this way. It is a real local hub with a great variety of activities taking place there every day. It is good that disabled members of the community will be able to access the centre far more easily than before.

"It is important to remember that such centres are here to serve all members of the local community. I would urge people to come down and see the wide range of activities that are on offer. It is a great way to get out of the house and meet with friends new and old alike."
