Councillor CALLS for healthy eating

October 16, 2008 12:00 AM

Liberal Democrat Councillor Linda Rhodes-Clayton has been encouraging local residents to support Community Action Little London and Servias.

The group, based in Little London Community Centre (LLCC) hosts a wide variety of events that local residents are welcome to make use of as much as they wish.

CALLS is a residents group that aims to bring about positive change in the Little London area through community action. The group hosts a regular bingo night on Mondays and Fridays, as well as Pilates classes, exercise clubs, gardening classes and sports teams.

The Eatwell Community Café, hosted every Wednesday from 09:30 till 13:00 provides a wide range of healthy lunches, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes and other snacks, freshly prepared by local volunteers. Just recently Councillor Rhodes-Clayton visited the healthy eating café whilst hosting her councillor surgeries at LLCC.

Speaking of the café, Councillor Rhodes-Clayton said:

"I think that the healthy eating café is a wonderful idea for the local residents. It gives people a place to meet friends and socialise, whilst learning about ways to eat well and keep healthy.

"Community facilities like these are really valued by local residents, but they can only survive if people make use of them. I would urge everyone who lives in or around Little London to come down to the community centre to see what is on offer. There is something for everyone!"

Based in the Little London Community Centre the group enjoys the high number of visitors they get at the different events. Speaking about CALLS, Harry Cobbold, manager of LCCC for the past 34 years said:

"A centre like this always depends on volunteers and it is great that CALLS have been hosting events here. The group and the centre serve the people around the local area so we are always pleased when people come along. There are lots of things that people can get involved in and I'm sure there will be more to come in the future."
