Weetwood ward councillors Sue Bentley, Judith Chapman and Ben Chastney today expressed their deep disappointment at the news that Far Headingley Post Office is to be closed.
During the consultation period over the future of Far Headingley Post Office, the three Weetwood ward councillors worked alongside local MP Greg Mulholland to oppose the closure. The Government has now decided to close the Post Office, despite an active campaign opposing this.
Councillor Judith Chapman (Lib Dem, Weetwood) commented:
"This decision is a massive blow for both local residents and businesses, who all rely heavily on this Post Office. It is disgraceful that their unified opposition to the closure has been ignored."
Councillor Sue Bentley (Lib Dem, Weetwood) added:
"The whole community made its view about Far Headingley very clear in our petitions and public meetings and through their personal letters. This consultation failed to address these objections and the decision to close our local Post Office is deeply flawed."
Councillor Ben Chastney (Lib Dem, Weetwood) stressed:
"We would urge the Government to seriously reconsider the decision to close this vital community resource and keep Far Headingley Post Office open."
