Local Liberal Democrat Councillors have welcomed plans to spend seven hundred thousand pounds on improving facilities for the Taxi & Private Hire Licensing Offices near the Torre Road flyover at 225 York Road. The new facilities will provide more space for Office staff to improve the service, as well as improved visitor, meeting and interview facilities.
Cllr Ralph Pryke (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said :- "For quite a long time the facilities at the 225 York Road have struggled to cope with the need to provide more modern and efficient offices for both Taxi & Private Hire Drivers and the staff who issue licenses for them. The new facilities have been designed to fit in with the immediate area and also to improve both staff and customer facilities, including improved car parking, meeting and interview areas.
"As the income from the licences will pay for the work needed there is every reason for Leeds City Council to go ahead with this work and I am sure the Executive Board will approve the scheme at their next meeting which should allow all the work to be completed by the end of the year."
