The council is this week distributing 1400 new recycling bins in Woodhouse.
The roll-out is in response to requests for green recycling bins from both local residents and local ward councillor Penny Ewens.
Green bags will be provided to residents in some cases as wheelie bins have proved unsuitable for some of the high-rise properties in the area.
Woodhouse councillor Penny Ewens has welcomed the scheme.
Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said:
"The roll-out in Woodhouse comes at a time when the council is making a concerted effort to boost recycling rates in the city. It's vital that as many people as possible have the opportunity to recycle their household waste. Information on how people can correctly use their green bins and green bags will be sent out in the post and via flyers attached to the bins themselves. Any queries should be relayed to the council's hotline on 0845 124 0113."
