Councillor Penny Ewens has welcomed the news that controversial proposals for a new student block off Hanover Square has been withdrawn by the developer following discussions at the last city centre plans panel.

Developers Rushbond have agreed to consider alternative proposals for the site.

Councillor Penny Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said:

"I shared the committees view that the situation had changed since the original application was approved some years ago. In this time we have seen a massive growth in student accommodation along the Burley Road corridor. It's clear that the last thing we need is yet more student accommodation in Little Woodhouse."
