Metro chairman speaks out on latest First Bus statistics

Councillor Ryk Downes, Chair of Metro has run-the-rule over the latest punctuality figures from transport giant First Bus.

Councillor Downes (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said:

"I welcome the improved punctuality statistics and feel that First are making good use of the real time information system that Metro has developed in partnership with South Yorkshire PTE and major bus companies.

"The real time system gives operators invaluable, detailed feedback on how services are running and allows better scheduling and management of services. It also provides information for the customers in finding out when their next bus is due.

"Metro is working with Leeds City Council and First to develop detailed plans to further improved punctuality, with the target being 95% of services to be on time.

"Bus performance tends to dip in winter months and First Leeds need to ensure that they are doing everything in their powers to provide Leeds folk with the best possible services.

"As well as operator issues and congestion, careless car driving affects bus punctuality and I would appeal to motorists to act responsibly and not use bus lanes illegally or park carelessly on bus lanes."
