Cllr Ralph Pryke
Leeds City Council's representative on the Regional Flood Defence Committee Councillor Ralph Pryke has welcomed news that the flood-hit residents of East Leeds are set to benefit from a six figure funding package.
£240k has been made available as part of a pilot scheme for enhancing the resilience of properties at risk from flooding. Homes on the Dunhills Estate in Halton area will specifically targeted for the funding. The money will come from Leeds City Council (£150k) and DEFRA (90k).
Cllr Ralph Pryke, who represented the Dunhills before the boundary changed in 2004, expressed his relief that those hardest hit by the floods are finally getting aid.
Cllr Ralph Pryke (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) said, "This funding package is welcome tonic amidst doom and gloom of the recent flooding. The Dunhills were hit hard by the deluge in June and I am pleased that the council has ensured that this money will go to those who need it most. Whilst this announcement is scant consolation for those residents whose homes have been damaged and lives turned upside down, it will hopefully offer some comfort that steps are being taken to ensure that this level of devastation does not occur again."
