Servia Hill verge in Woodhouse, known locally as Bagby Fields is poised to get a £35k makeover.
£20k for a major facelift of the fields has already been approved by Leeds City Council after a vociferous campaign by local councillor Kabeer Hussain and Woodhouse residents.
A second clean-up project, costing £15k is being proposed by green champions Groundwork Leeds.
Councillor Kabeer Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said, "Bagby Fields is an eyesore and a known hotspot for troublemakers and drug users. Local residents are sick to the back teeth of the current situation and have asked for something to be done about it. After a number of meetings with council officers from the Parks and Countryside department, we have managed to secure funding for a much-needed facelift through Section 106 Monies.
Councillor Hussain added, "What's so pleasing about this scheme is that the money has been made available as a by-product of the council granting an application for student flats at the former Leodis Works. I'm delighted that the developers, through the Section 106 agreement, have put something back into Woodhouse."
