Council chiefs will next week (14/03/07) consider plans for a seven-figure investment in two children's centres in North Leeds.
Executive board members will be asked to give the thumbs-up to a huge £1m cash injection to create the Broadgate Children's Centre in Horsforth and the Queensway Children's Centre in Yeadon.
Horsforth Councillor Andrew Barker and Yeadon Councillor Colin Campbell have backed the plans and have urged the council's executive board to do the same.
Councillor Andrew Barker (Lib Dem, Horsforth) said "I am very impressed with the plans for the children's centre in Horsforth. The new centre would provide a whole host of services for families and children that previously weren't available under one-roof.
Councillor Barker added, "Too often in the past Horsforth has been dismissed as a leafy suburb that doesn't have the problems that other areas do. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. There are many families here that need support with childcare, health and social care issues. I am delighted that this scheme, should it get the ok, will go some way to addressing these needs."
Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem Otley & Yeadon) added, "A new children's centre would make a real difference to the people here in Yeadon. Facilities such as a community room and outside play area would be a huge bonus for adults and children alike. The range of services proposed such as family and parenting support as well as job and training opportunities are equally impressive. A green-light for the children's centre would be a huge boost for the area."
