Headingley councillors James Monaghan and Martin Hamilton have expressed their disappointment that the Great Student Run has been officially been given the go-ahead today.
Councillor James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said "Both Councillor Hamilton and I are extremely disappointed that the run has been given the all clear. The fact of the matter is that despite the public outcry, the council didn't legally have a case to oppose the run."
Cllr Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) added "I would ask Leeds Met to examine its conscience. The disruption the run caused last year has been well documented and to repeat the same fiasco twelve months on is simply unacceptable. Sadly, this situation is symptomatic of a wider problem, the unwillingness of the university to be an active community partner."
Cllr Monaghan concluded, "In light of this we are calling an urgent meeting with both the Vice Chancellor of Leeds Met and Leeds University to discuss in detail their relationship with the Headingley community and how we can improve it."
