Little London clean-up hailed a success

January 22, 2007 12:00 AM

A major programme to deliver cleaner, safer and greener public spaces in Little London is proving big success, according to local councillor Kabeer Hussain.

The Intensive Neighbourhood Management scheme, which has already helped revamp the appearance of the Carlton's and Holborn's, will be rolled out in other parts of Little London in the near future.

Measures provided under the scheme include visible on-street environmental improvements such as repairs to footpaths and highways, enhancing bin yards, improving boundary treatments and greenspaces.

Money for the scheme comes from the 'Safer, Cleaner and Greener' grant for disadvantaged areas of Leeds and the 'Neighbourhood Element' of the Safer and Stronger Communities Fund.

Councillor Kabeer Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said, "This scheme is exactly the kind of thing we need to boost areas like Little London that have so far missed out on the Leeds boom. The physical appearance of the environment people live in has a huge impact on their quality of life.

"There is a significant amount of money being spent on this project and we are already seeing the benefits in the Carlton's and Holborn's. Credit has to go to the officers who devised the scheme and the teams on the ground doing the hard work."
