Leeds City Council is to fund ?90,000 worth of improvements to several open spaces* in Gipton. Gipton & Harehills Liberal Democrat Councillors Javaid Akhtar and Alan Taylor say the improvements will go a long way towards enhancing the appearance of the Gipton area, and will make the neighbourhood much safer. The work will involve measures such as footpath improvements, litter bins, informal play equipment, fencing, improved lighting, tree and bulb planting, and landscaping.
Cllr Akhtar (Liberal Democrat, Gipton & Harehills) said "There are several areas of green and open space across Gipton that, with some improvement work, can be real assets for the local community. A lot of these spaces are open to misuse and anti social behaviour at the moment though. This money will allow things fencing and lighting improvements that will ensure the safety of everybody using the spaces."
Cllr Taylor (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) added "Every penny spent on improving our parks and green spaces in Gipton is money well spent. People from outside the area are often surprised at how much open space there is here, this funding will help to make sure we get the best use from this space."
