Next weeks meeting of Leeds City Council set to approve additional ?5 million spend on providing more Wheelie Bins.
Cllr Mark Harris, Lib Dem Leader of Leeds City Council, is asking the Council's Executive Board to approve additional spending of just over 5 million pounds on additional and replacement wheelie bins in the City over the next five years. The request is being made at next weeks meeting (15th Nov) as part of a report on the Council's Capital Spending.
Cllr Harris said "This additional money is essential for the Council to continue its planned roll out of green bins to implement our green waste strategy. It will pay for 250,000 bins at current prices, which will boost our ability to increase recycling across the City. Once again the joint administration has shown itself committed to improving and enhancing services across Leeds."
Cllr Steve Smith, Lib Dem Portfolio Holder with responsibility for the Green Waste Strategy added :- "Many of the additional bins purchased with this funding will go to the rollout of our new garden waste collection service. This is already being rolled out in a number of trial areas across the City and, depending on the success of the trials, will be rolled out to other suitable areas. We will also be using the money to purchase replacement black and green bins where they are needed. Both vandalism and 'wear and tear' take a toll on the Bins we have already provided across the City and we need to ensure that adequate replacements are readily available. This will help reduce the delays some people have unfortunately faced recently."
