Otley Cllrs welcome plant extension refusal

Local Councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Graham Kirkland have welcomed a decision by the council's Plans Panel to refuse permission for an extension to the Concrete Batching Plant, Bridge End, Otley.

Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said, "We believe that this was always an inappropriate development as it falls within Otley's Green Belt cordon. Originally the plant used locally extracted gravel, but this has not been the case for a number of years. The lorries which have brought gravel and cement to the site, plus those who have taken mixed cement away have caused an intolerable burden on local roads."

Councillor Campbell added, "The closure of the site would stop 34000 lorry movements through Otley. This must be a good thing for Otley and the environment."
