Lib Dem Councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Graham Kirkland have donated cash to help combat the threat of 'purse dipping' in Yeadon. The money, which comes from the Councillor's MICE fund, will pay for around 100 purse chains that will be distributed in Yeadon by West Yorkshire Police.
Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) said, "Unfortunately, the threat posed by purse dippers is a very real one. Often it's our most vulnerable citizens who are targeted whilst going about their daily business, such as shopping in the town centre.
Councillor Campbell added "Whilst the purse chains will undoubtedly help combat this threat, the biggest pre-cautionary step anyone can take is to stay vigilant. It makes any potential thief's life a lot harder when purses and bags are properly closed and kept in view."
Notes:
1. The cost of 100 purse chains is £106.07.
2. The chains will be distributed in Morrisons primarily but also Haworth Court, Hanover House and Lane Fox Court.
