Councillor Steve Smith, executive board member for city services, has been 'walkabout' in East Leeds. Joined by local councillor Javaid Akhtar and Councillor James Monaghan (lead member for city services), the highways chief hit the streets of Gipton and Harehills to canvass residents on what could be done to improve their area.
All three councillors talked at length to members of the local community about issues such as graffiti, street cleaning and road repairs. Councillor Akhtar explained that Councillor Smith was given plenty to take away from his visit.
Councillor Javaid Akhtar (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) said "This walkabout certainly proved useful for Councillors Smith and Monaghan. Both of them kindly accepted my invitation to come down to East Leeds to meet residents and have a look at the surrounding streets. Councillor Smith assured me that he would be acting on the concerns raised by local residents after hearing their views first hand."
