School children from across South Leeds have been given the opportunity to join in an archaeological excavation on a possible Roman site in the grounds of Rodillian High School. Councillor Richard Brett, the new executive board member for Children's Services, took time out to visit the site.
Councillor Richard Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) said, "Having been to the excavation site and seen the children getting hands on at the dig, the thing that most impressed me was their enthusiasm. Getting out in the open air to a real live excavation site was a wonderful experience for these children and one they clearly enjoyed."
The dig has been organised by West Yorkshire Archaeology Advisory Service in partnership with Leeds City Learning Centre, the South Leeds Archaeology Group and the Portable Antiquities Scheme
The primary schools involved in the excavation were Rothwell Church of England, Rothwell Primary, Robin Hood, Clapgate, Carlton, Oulton, Thorpe and Haigh Road.
