A competition to find the best student garden in Leeds has been launched by Unipol. The Code of Standards Garden Competition has been organised with the aim of encouraging landlords, agents and students to take more pride in their gardens.
Green fingered landlords submitted their applications for the competition last month, with the most eye-catching entries being short listed for the Leeds in Bloom awards ceremony. Headingley Councillor James Monaghan, who will be helping to judge the competition, has hailed the initiative and has stressed the importance of both landlords and students taking responsibility for their property's appearance.
Councillor James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said "The Code of Standards competition is an excellent idea. I am delighted to be involved in the competition, which will reward those landlords that have made the effort to improve their tenant's gardens and in turn make a positive contribution to their local environment."
Notes:
1. Councillor Monaghan will be judging entries on Thursday 29th June 2006.
2. The top three properties will be awarded a 'gold', 'silver' and 'bronze' certificates, whilst the owners of the other properties included in the short list will be awarded a 'finalists' certificate.
3. In addition to the Code of Standards Competition, the judges will decide upon the winner of the "Green Garden Award". This is being promoted by the Leeds HMO Lobby and will be awarded to the garden which best meets with their criteria.
4. All entrants will receive a certificate recognising their efforts in the competition.
