A public meeting to discuss road safety issues at a new school site in east Leeds, is to be held next week. Located off Stoney Rock Lane, Burmantofts, the site will house the new Primrose High and Shakespeare Primary Schools.
Parents and local residents will be given the chance to air their views on the new-build in front of an audience of councillors, highways officers and representatives from Education Leeds. The meeting is to be held on Monday 3rd July at 7:30pm in St Agnes Church Hall, Burmantofts.
Councillor Richard Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said "The location of this development has raised concerns about traffic congestion and the children's safety during peak periods. Due to its close proximity to St James' Hospital, this site is particularly susceptible to parking problems, whether that is the overflow from the hospital or parents doing the school run. Couple this with the fact that the three new pedestrian crossing points agreed for the site are looking unlikely to be up and running for September, there urgently needs to be a discussion on these issues. "
Councillor Brett added "My colleague Cllr Ralph Pryke has canvassed local residents and the general consensus is that location of the school site is fine but we really need to talk about the knock on effects for the local community."
