The Cross Green area of Richmond Hill is to get a long overdue facelift. This formerly forgotten corner of east Leeds will soon be subject to a number of initiatives that help rejuvenate the local community. Recently, council chiefs gave the green light to a £500k scheme that will see 21 houses in Cross Green Grove and Cross Green Avenue knocked down to make way for a new development. Burmantofts and Richmond Hill Councillor Richard Brett has spoken out about the council's latest regeneration project and the knock on effects it will have for the surrounding area.
Councillor (Lib Dem, ward) "This area of Cross Green is terraced housing which has been neglected for many years. Many residents have told me that they feel they are the forgotten area of Leeds. Thanks to Cllr Les Carter and his Neighbourhoods and Housing team a start is being made on regenerating this deprived area. 21 sub standard properties will be demolished, which we hope in due course will be replaced with quality 21st century homes."
Councillor Brett added, "When combined with the East Leeds Link road which is starting in November this year, the new Intensive Neighbourhood management scheme, plans for new building on part of the Copperfields College site and the temporary lorry ban on Cross Green Lane, you can see that the administration is beginning to make a real difference in this area."
