The council are to introduce new safety measures in order to combat the threat of fires on Woodhouse Moor. The popular greenspace, also known as Hyde Park, will get additional skips and a specialist litter-picking team to help eliminate the cause of the fires during its busy summer period. Recently park goers witnessed a large bin blaze started by a discarded disposable barbecue coming into contact with a pile of rubbish. Local Councillor Kabeer Hussain has campaigned for extra safety measures for the park and is delighted that action is being taken to combat the threat of future fires.
Councillor (Kabeer Hussain, Lib Dem Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said "I am delighted that the council have acted so swiftly to address the problem of fires on the Moor. While we want people to take advantage of the park, we must also be aware there are certain dangers associated with so many people in one space. Litter is main the reason why something like a recklessly discarded barbecue can have such serious implications. Both the skips and the litter team will help reduce the potential for fires on the Moor. "
