Banstead Park in Harehills, has a new addition this summer, in the form of a community information pod. The pod, provided by Chapeltown Police, will provide local youngsters with information on a range of issues relating to teenage life. Holding sessions up to four days-a-week, the council Youth Service initiative has been supported by local Harehills Councillors Javaid Akhtar and Alan Taylor.
Councillor Javaid Akhtar (Lib Dem, Gipton & Harehills) said "The pod is a real bonus for the young people in the area. Credit has to go to both Sandy Varley (Leeds City Council Youth Service) and the Police for developing such a positive relationship that has seen the project get up and running so smoothly. By providing a neutral venue in such a high profile spot, the Youth Service has created a space that is both accessible and welcoming for youngsters."
