The Original Oak on Otley Road has been refused an extension to sell booze into the early hours, six days a week. The license was thrown out by the Magistrates Court after Leeds City Council refused to extend the Oak's drinking hours as this would have been in breach of the area's culminative impact policy. Cllr James Monaghan has described the announcement as timely boost for the local community.
Councillor James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said "The decision to refuse the Oak this opening extension is a real boost. Headingley is an area subject to the Council's cumulative impact policy which is intended to stop this sort of application, it's pleasing that the Magistrates Court have recognised this."
Councillor Martin Hamilton (Lib Dem, Headingley) added "As a ward Councillor I made objections to the Oak's application on behalf of local residents, who were united in their opposition to the extension. I would in particular like to pay tribute to residents who attended the hearing and were called as witnesses."
