Headingley Councillor James Monaghan has met with representatives of Leeds Rugby to pass on local residents' concerns over disruption caused by builders working on the new stand at Leeds Rhinos' Headingley ground. As a result Leeds Rugby have made guarantees that there will be no repeat of a recent incident where noisy concrete laying work continued late into the evening.
Cllr Monaghan said "I called the meeting because a number of people living on the Cardigan Triangle were very upset about the builders continuing their work late into the evening. I told them that this is completely unacceptable, and to be fair to Leeds Rugby they held their hands up and apologised. More importantly, they've promised that the next - and final - time they're laying concrete they'll let the people living nearby know about it, and no matter what happens they'll finish work no later than 8.30pm. "
"Having the Rugby and Cricket here in Headingley is wonderful for the community. The vast majority of people living here in Headingley are quite rightly proud of the fact that we stage so many top class sporting events here, and accept that from time to time there'll be some inconvenience as a result - it's just a matter of minimising the disruption wherever possible. The discussion we had was quite productive, with the people at Leeds Rugby keen to continue the good work they already do within the community".
