Another PCSO for Every Ward in Leeds!

March 1, 2006 3:28 PM

The extra PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) funded in last year's budget by the Liberal Democrat/Conservative/Green administration running Leeds City Council have proved so successful that the administration has decided to pay for even more. This year's Council budget includes funding towards providing another PCSO in all 33 wards in Leeds. Cllr Richard Brett, a Leeds City Council representative on West Yorkshire Police Authority, has welcomed the move as yet another example of the administration providing extra resources for the frontline services that Leeds residents want most.

Cllr Brett (Lib Dem, Burmantofts and Richmond Hill) said "The extra PCSOs that the Liberal Democrat, Green and Conservative administration provided last year have been well received right across Leeds. Time and time again people tell us that they want a visible police presence in their neighbourhoods, so we are happy to be able to help the Police out by providing funding for more PCSOs."

"The intention is that every ward in the City will be provided with another PCSO - meaning that there will be a minimum of 3 PCSOs in each ward. This means that since we came to power less than two years ago we have massively increased the uniformed presence in neighbourhoods right across Leeds - not just the City Centre."

The views in this Press Release are those of the Liberal Democrat Council Group, and not necessarily those of Leeds City Council, its Officers or of the Liberal Democrat Party.
