Rothwell Park set for six figure revamp

January 18, 2006 12:00 AM

Leeds City Council has announced plans for a six figure revamp of Springhead Park, Rothwell. The makeover comes as part of a huge £3.7m spending programme to revitalise parks and green spaces in Leeds. The £155k provided by the Parks Renaissance fund, will be spent on significant improvements to parks appearance and security. Local Rothwell Councillor Steve Smith has welcomed the investment.

Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said "This refurbishment is a timely boost for the area. The complete refurbishment of the senior playground is welcome news for parents. The park is a valuable asset to the local community and warrants being given a much needed facelift."

Note to Editors:

The planned improvements include:

· Refurbishment of the aviaries - frames, cages and roofs

· Enhanced security measures including wires to the cage fronts, CCTV and lighting

· Landscaping to encompass the provision of new borders

· Resurfaced walkways

· Complete refurbishment of the senior playground

· Install new seats and litter bins

· Signage and interpretation, including educational interpretation and a donation box
