Transport operator First Group is to re - introduce two 'essential' bus routes in Woodhouse, west Leeds. From January 2006 both the 62 and 63c will resume service despite previously being axed for losing money. Councillor Penny Ewens has welcomed the news but has issued a use it or lose it plea to local residents.
Cllr Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said "These routes serve long roads away from the beaten track and are essential for older people and mothers with young children for shopping trips and hospital visits. First Group will be closely monitoring the usage of the routes so unless numbers increase an alternative provision will have to be sought."
Councillor Ewens has also welcomed news that the Metro (West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority) will be introducing formal bus stops to replace the current 'hail and ride' system operating in Woodhouse. A site visit by Metro and their colleagues in council's highways department will be taking place to identify where best to site the stops.
Notes to the Editor:
· Details of the timetables and fares for the routes will be announced shortly by First Group
