Leeds Play Network recently held its annual general meeting in St Peter's House, Kirkgate with Hyde Park & Woodhouse Councillor Penny Ewens in attendance. The meeting helped spread the word of the network, whose objective is to promote the value of play amongst children. Leeds Play Network provides training for those wishing to work in this field. Playworkers are qualified to run after school clubs and other activities for younger children. Whilst in schools and elsewhere the Playworkers encourage children to use their imagination and develop their creativity in all art forms.
Cllr Penny Ewens (Lib Dem Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said "Britain has a worldwide reputation for creativity and the development of new ideas. Not everyone realises the value of free play in a child's development. Play, as supervised by qualified Playworkers, gives children the opportunity to use their imaginations and develop their own creativity, likely requirements in the workplaces of the 21st century."
