A shopping parade in the heart of East Leeds is set to receive a massive cash boost to the tune of £350,000. The huge sum, to be invested in the area in and around Shaftesbury Parade, has been set aside to improve the way the neighbourhood looks. The proposed revamp includes major repair work to shop fronts, windows and signs. News of the cash injection has been warmly welcomed by local Councillor David Hollingsworth.
Councillor Hollingsworth (Lib Dem, Burmantofts & Richmond Hill) said "The money is a massive boost for the area. Shaftesbury Parade is a vital focal point for the local community and the proposed revamp is very welcome. Improving the parade's visual appeal will not only encourage local residents to shop there but hopefully encourage commercial investment in the area."

All shop and building owners have been contacted and are in support of the scheme, it is anticipated that work will begin on site in January to be completed by March 2005.
The work is being managed and coordinated through the Regeneration, Major Projects Team in partnership with the Development Department. The scheme will be funded through the Single Pot, Leeds Sites and Premises Yorkshire Forward Programme.
