Speaking at this afternoon's meeting of Leeds City Council's Executive Board Cllr Mark Harris (Leader of Council and Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group) informed members that there had still been no response from the Government to the most recent information submitted by the Council and METRO.
Speaking after the meeting Cllr Harris said "When we met the Department of Transport in August they requested us to provide additional information comparing the benefits of Supertram to that of an improved bus system. We provided that information, which again clearly showed the benefits of Supertram to far outweigh that of a guided bus or any other bus system, by their deadline of the end of September.
"I have written twice in the last seven weeks asking for a meeting with the Minister responsible and had no response. A decision on the matter is crucial, and now that the Government won't say what they are doing the Council is being placed in an impossible position."
The views in this Press Release are those of the Liberal Democrat Council Group, and not necessarily those of Leeds City Council, its Officers or of the Liberal Democrat Party.
