Cllr Steve Smith
Rothwell Councillor Steve Smith has hailed news that Oulton Golf Course, now being leased to De Vere's hotel chain, is set to receive a major makeover with both the course and clubhouse in line for a revamp. De Vere's running of the club also means a massive £500K of capital receipt from the 75 year lease deal will be reinvested in Rothwell Sports Centre. The £0.5m sum will be used to improve the centre's ailing changing rooms amongst other projects. Work is due to be undertaken in the next financial year.
Councillor Steve Smith (Lib Dem, Rothwell) said "This is excellent news. De Vere's lease agreement means that much needed capital receipt has been generated that will benefit the both the club and Rothwell Sports Centre. Local residents will still find the course accessible and financially competitive whilst enjoying the added bonus of the improved facilities."
Note to Editors:
Following a report submitted to the Council's Executive Board on 13th February 2004, a decision was taken to lease out Oulton Golf Course to a private golf operator in order to generate much needed capital receipt to be invested in other areas of the sports service. The lease would also mean a major revamp of course and clubhouse whilst still proving affordable pay and play facilities for local residents.
