A Licensing Panel decision to refuse an extension of opening hours at the Original Oak, Headingley has been welcomed by local ward Councillor James Monaghan. Cllr Monaghan, who spoke out in opposition to the extension on behalf of local residents at a licensing hearing on Friday (23rd September) was at the Civic Hall again today to observe licensing applications submitted by the Arc Cafe Bar and Trio Bar & Grill which are similarly based in the heart of LS6.
Councillor James Monaghan (Lib Dem, Headingley) said "Both my ward colleagues and I are pleased that the Original Oak has had its application for a licensing extension refused. There was significant opposition to the application from local residents and ward Councillors which was both warranted and vociferous. I articulated my concerns for the proposals at the meeting and the panel took these considerations into account. The guidelines outlined by the Council's Cumulative Impact policy meant that the Oak's plans for an extension of hours could not be approved, a real success story for the local area which for too long has been saturated by licensees looking to make Headingley a late night drinking den ."
Notes to the Editor:
