Local Lib Dem Cllrs Linda Rhodes Clayton, Kabeer Hussain and Penny Ewens have hailed news of a major six figure investment in Quarry Mount Children's Centre, Woodhouse. Plans for a £700,000 revamp of the children's centre went before the Council's Executive Board today (21/09/05). The result of the proposals getting the green light is the introduction of a much needed care provision for local parents with children under the age of three. The plans will also provide office space for private consultations and meetings currently lacking at the nearby Sure Start Mellow Valley site (Beulah Mount). It is hoped that the work on the project will be completed by mid May 2006.
Cllr Rhodes Clayton (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) said "These proposals mean a much needed child care provision will become available to local residents, particularly parents with young children who till this point have had very little options in terms of childcare."
Cllr Kabeer Hussain (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) added "Consultations with local residents and parents as well local health professionals highlighted how important improved health facilities in the area are. My ward colleagues and I are delighted this scheme has got the green light."
Cllr Ewens (Lib Dem, Hyde Park & Woodhouse) commented "The lack of childcare facilities in Woodhouse mean the new provision at Quarry Mount will be a major step forward. This is a significant investment that will benefit the whole community and go some way to narrowing the gap between those in the Woodhouse and their more affluent counterparts down the road."
